FAQ: What's the Average Energy Cost of a Natural Swimming pool?

Like a traditional pool, a Natural Swimming Pool needs a water pump in order to move water through the filter system and back out into the swimming area. Some larger NSP's or ones with a waterfall or stream require multiple water pumps to properly circulate water. In most places in the USA, we are able to run our NSP's all year long, so you can continue to enjoy your waterfall even during the cooler months. We use energy efficient, variable speed pumps whenever possible, which allow you to turn the pumps down to a lower setting during the winter or even at certain times throughout the day. They can even be programmed to run on timers so you can avoid peak energy times each day if your area has regulations regarding electricity usage.

A family-sized Natural Swimming Pool (about 50ft overall with a 30ft swimming area) typically costs $4-6 a day during the swimming season using a energy efficient pump (30-50 kWh per day at the national average of $.12 per kWh). Though often less expensive upfront, the daily energy consumption of a traditional pool pump could easily cost twice that! Over the course of 1-2 seasons, a more efficient pump typically pays for itself in saved electricity costs. Plus, depending on your area, there are often energy rebates that you can qualify for if you purchase a energy efficient pump instead of a traditional pool pump.
