Below are some of our past custom Natural Swimming Pool/Pond projects. We design and build NSP's for clients across the United States and beyond. Though every project is unique, each one features the same all-natural, chlorine-free swimming experience!
Project Spotlight: Essential NSP in Kansas

Built in 2022-2023, this "Essential" style natural pool features an underwater wooden wall that separates the planted filtration area from a central swimming area. This serene natural pool is complete with a waterfall, zero entry pebble beach and wooden pier w/ ladder. Project Spotlight: Delightful in the Desert
Built in 2022-2023 in Bisbee, Arizona, this natural pool features our usual built-in biological filtration system which surrounds a central swimming area. The NSP is 52,000 gallons (1800 square feet), 6 feet deep, with an overall size of about 58' x 44'. Fun fact: During a particularly brutal summer heatwave, water temps in this natural pool reached as high as 86 degrees with no negative impacts on the plants, fish or the bio-filter!
Project Spotlight: Natural in Napa Valley
Modern styling meets all-natural beauty in this 65,000 gallon swimming pond in Napa, California. Approximately 50FT x 80FT overall, this NSP features a 20FT x 40FT swimming area, shallow play area, pebble beach and modern block waterfall. Built by Total Habitat in 2019, this Natural Swimming Pool was designed in collaboration with Roche + Roche Landscape Architecture.
Project Spotlight: Tennessee Swimming Hole
Designed and built by Total Habitat in 2017, this 12 foot deep, spring-fed Natural Swimming Pool/Pond is nestled in the heart of the rolling Tennessee hills. This swimming hole offers unlimited fun with an 18 foot custom waterslide, gentle-entry pebble beach, and waterfall with hidden grotto!
Project Spotlight: Prairie Retreat
This swimming pond was designed and built by Total Habitat in 2022 at the Retreat 21 event space outside Columbus, Ohio. This naturally filtered pond features a beach, waterfall and rustic wooden deck that is perfect for gatherings! See even more photos on Retreat 21's website and instagram account!
Project Spotlight: Woodland Pool in Washington
Designed and built by Total Habitat in 2016, this swimming pond is tucked away within the lush fern forests of the Pacific Northwest. Constructed of local rounded boulders and featuring a rustic wooden pier, this 50FT x 30FT Natural Swimming Pool is right at home in its woodland setting.
Project Spotlight: Contemporary NSP in KCMO
Designed and built by Total Habitat in 2019, this contemporary Natural Swimming Pool in Kansas City, MO is about 30FT x 40FT and approx. 20,000 gallons. This rectilinear NSP was built with concrete (rather than with a pond liner like most of our NSP projects) and features an underwater wooden wall, step-in pebble beach, a central swimming area and a rainwater collection system.

Project Spotlight: Georgia Mountain Retreat
Designed and built by Total Habitat in 2012-2013, this Natural Swimming Pond features a waterfall, stream with bridge, infinity edge, hot springs and natural stone retaining walls. The Elohee Center, in the mountains of North Georgia, provides a beautiful retreat space in Nature to allow for self-exploration, individual growth, and mind/body healing. Like the retreat's Fire Ring, lush forest, and spectacular mountaintop views, the Swimming Pond has become an integral part of the natural healing experience. Project Spotlight: Home Sweet Home in Kansas
Designed and built in 2019 at the Total Habitat office in Kansas City, KS, this swimming pond packs a good deal of fun in a small space! At about 30FT long x 20FT wide and a max depth of about 4FT, this NSP is perfect for 2-4 adults or a small family and features a waterfall, step-in pebble beach, in-water rock "benches", and a separate rock bubbler feature.
Project Spotlight: Lush in St. Louis
Designed and built by Total Habitat in 2018, this lush swimming pond in St. Louis, MO is about 30FT wide x 50FT long and is 32,000 gallons. This NSP features an underwater wooden wall, zero-entry pebble beach, (2) rock bubblers and a wooden pier/bridge.
Project Spotlight: Beautiful Boulders in Nebraska
At about 90FT x 70FT and over 200,000 gallons, this swimming pond near Omaha, NE provides tons of play opportunities for this extended family! Featuring gorgeous granite boulders, a zero-entry pebble beach, waterfall, pier and a stream with bridge, this NSP was designed and built by Total Habitat in 2019.
Project Spotlight: Urban Oasis in Connecticut
Built in New Haven, Connecticut in 2014, this Total Habitat swimming pond features a zero-entry pebble beach, locally-sourced boulders, native water plants, and a pier made from reclaimed wood. This NSP is about 30FT wide x 40FT long with a maximum depth of about 6FT.
Project Spotlight: Terraced Beauty
Featuring three terraced patios, native limestone steps, natural stone retaining walls, a fire pit, and waterfall with 100ft stream, this backyard transformation is truly spectacular! This project was designed and built by Total Habitat in 2017 in Manhattan, KS. The swimming pond is about 90FT x 40FT overall with a step-in pebble beach, "mermaid" island rock and several edge jumping boulders.
Project Spotlight: Nautilus NSP
Reminiscent of a nautilus shell, this pool design features an underwater pebble pathway which spirals down into the circular swimming area. This pebble beach path (shown on the left above) is bordered by a mossy sandstone rock bubbler and a trio of "floating" stepping boulders. This circular, 25,000 gallon Natural Swimming Pool is approximately 30ft overall with a 25ft x 20ft swimming area, making it perfect for small spaces.
Project Spotlight: Serene Woodland NSP
Designed and built by Total Habitat in the early 2000's, this swimming pond in Wichita, KS is about 80FT x 120FT and over 200,000 gallons. Nestled in the trees, this NSP features a series of waterfalls, a zero-entry pebble beach, island rock and several natural jumping boulders.
Project Spotlight: Westchester Wonder
Designed and built by Total Habitat in 2018 in Westchester County, NY, this swimming pond features a step-in pebble beach, hot springs, custom artificial jumping rock and waterslide. Reaching a maximum depth around 10FT, this NSP is about 35FT x 60FT overall and approx. 98,000 gallons!
