FAQ: What Does the Biological Filter Clean From the Water?

In every one of our Natural Swimming Pools and swimming ponds, we build in a powerful, massive biological filtration system that provides acres of living space for beneficial bacteria to live. The beneficial bacteria that lives on surfaces inside the biological filter is responsible for cleaning from the water:
  • E. coli and other harmful bacteria
  • Plankton algae
  • Oils, including skin oils
  • Body fluids (all kinds, including accidentals)
  • Fish and fish food waste (if needed)

Our Natural Swimming Pool/Ponds routinely pass bathing water tests across the United States. Though the water is clean and clear, it is important to realize that a NSP is a living system, host to a variety of organisms including beneficial bacteria, water plants, fish, water bugs, tadpoles, dragonflies, frogs and more! Even in the cleanest natural body of water there will be a biofilm or living patina on surfaces underwater. This is normal and is a part of the NSP ecosystem. If you're ready to learn more about natural pools, check out the eBook and online courses available on The Natural Pool Academy! Ready to build?
