Commonsense Approach to Safety
With our Natural Swimming Pool/Ponds (NSP's), our ultimate goal is to recreate the experience of exploring a beautifully clean body of water in nature. This experience is highly rewarding and enriching, but comes with some inherent risks. For example, when encountering a natural body of water, you have no guarantee that rocks won’t shift or depths won’t vary unexpectedly, so you must explore your environment with care. Likewise, in our NSP’s, you and any guests to your pool/pond must be aware of the risks and navigate the space carefully. Since the water in our NSP's isn't poisoned with chemicals, it can attract wildlife: Most commonly, NSP visitors are deer, bullfrogs, dragonflies, tadpoles, and birds, though certain types of snakes are a possibility. If you are squeamish about nature or are risk-adverse, all we can say is- NSP's are not for everyone. If you, on the other hand, long to get out and experience nature, love observing wildlife, or seek to educate your children about the wonders of the great outdoors, then you are an ideal NSP candidate and we can't wait to work with you!
Safety & Liability Information (For Plans & eBook)
We have done our best to make our Essential NSP Plans and how-to eBook, Natural Swimming Pools & Ponds: THE TOTAL GUIDE, 2nd Edition, as comprehensive and easy-to-use as possible in hopes that more of you out there can experience the joy of owning and using a Natural Swimming Pool/Pond (NSP)! These plans, in addition to the companion eBook, are meant to be a guide for you and your team of licensed building professionals as you plan your own NSP project, and do not contain a catalog of every single step or every little piece of material needed to build this NSP. Construction experience, commonsense and a respect for safety are required before taking on this building project.
We do our best to make our NSP's as safe as possible and we follow all applicable codes and regulations. However, as the NSP industry is relatively new and we are on the pioneering end of its development, we employ many design and construction methods which are experimental in nature. We take a common-sense approach to the design & construction of our NSP’s and expect others to use common-sense when enjoying them.
There are certain risks to owning and using a Natural Swimming Pool/Pond (NSP) that we want you to be aware of before you move forward:
Use of these plans and/or the companion eBook means:
1) You understand the following risks involved with owning a Natural Swimming Pool/Pond (NSP) and you accept all liability for any injury or death that may occur at anytime during or following the NSP's construction: The owner of a NSP is responsible for adhering to all local safety codes, which may include but not be limited to; installing fencing around the NSP, posting safety/warning signage, providing certain safety equipment in or around the NSP, performing water quality tests, etc. You are also responsible for informing users of the risks to swimming in or playing around a NSP, which may include but not be limited to injury or death resulting from; drowning, diving, jumping, shifting or falling rocks, poor visibility both in or around the NSP, slippery or slick surfaces, encounters with wildlife in or around the NSP, scraping/snagging/tearing/pinching of clothing or body parts on materials in or around the NSP, exposure to poor water quality, exposure to fresh unchlorinated water and the very rare amoeba N.fowleri that is a risk in any fresh water, malfunction or failure of equipment in the NSP (review the safety info provided with said equipment), etc.
2) You understand that these documents are intended to be a guide for experienced and trusted construction professionals only. Total Habitat is not responsible for the poor execution or misinterpretation/misuse of these plans. Any attempt to build a NSP and/or use tools or heavy equipment to that end, shall be done at the individual's own risk, both physically and financially. You and/or your team are responsible for following all safety regulations, acquiring any necessary permits or insurance, and following all instructions for use regarding any tools/equipment/materials required for construction. You and your team are also responsible for ensuring the correct and safe installation of all components in or around the NSP such as water pumps, skimmers, underwater walls, pond liner, pier/deck, ladder, waterfall, plumbing, etc. Total Habitat will not be held responsible for poor or otherwise undesirable water quality resulting from fabricator error, unforseen natural force, or failure of equipment necessary for NSP function (pumps, skimmers, drainage tubes, and any other plumbing components). Depending on your geographical location, ground slope, soil composition, material availability, municipal codes and other local factors, your actual NSP may vary in construction technique, cost, complexity and materials required. Consult a professional before taking on any building tasks and follow all applicable building and safety procedures. Always get any necessary permits or permission and call your state's 811 representative BEFORE YOU DIG.
3) You agree to not distribute, share, copy, or sell these plans or the companion eBook. This includes posting or sharing these documents (or any type of copy, photo or approximation of them) via any website, blog, file sharing service, email message or campaign, educational or professional database or social media site.
