Natural Swimming Pool/Ponds: Price Per Square Foot?
One of the truly great things about Natural Swimming Pool/Ponds is that they can be made in just about any shape or size with many optional natural features, making every project truly unique! This natural variability, however, can make accurately pricing a NSP before it's actually designed a challenging (if not impossible) endeavor.
To add to the complexity, unlike the materials used to build the typical traditional pool (concrete, plaster, tile) which are pretty consistent across the country, NSP's are more often built using natural materials like stacked stone, filter gravel and river rock, which vary greatly across North America - we've seen rock costs anywhere from $35 - $750+ per ton!).
On top of this wide variability in design and material costs, consider also that there are several construction techniques used to build a natural pool (see some examples below). There are a lot of factors that go into the decision to go with one construction method over another, so it is important to work with a designer from the start and let them know your budget goals.
For all of these reasons, we've found from past projects that a Natural Swimming Pool/Pond can really cost anywhere from $15 - $300 per square foot (that's a wide range!), with most of our projects tending to fall in the $50 - $100 per square foot range. The Bottomline: Though we would LOVE to be able to tell you right now that your natural pool will cost $___/per square foot, it's really not possible until we know the design, location and construction technique.
